(July 18, 2008 - Insidermedicine) From the UK - According to a study published in The Lancet Oncology, cancer survival rates differ greatly between countries all over the world. The study compared 31 countries and assessed data on nearly 2 million cancer patients. Of these results, one of the most dramatic is the survival rate for prostate cancer in the United States at almost 92%, whereas in Europe, the rate was 57%.

From Atlanta - The CDC is reporting that one out of four Americans is obese. The figure shows significant increases in obesity rates when compared to 23.9% in 2005, 19.8% in 2000, and 15.3% in 1995. Obesity is the major cause of serious health problems such as heart attack, stroke, and diabetes.

And finally, from Washington - The FDA has announced that all tomatoes now being sold in the US are safe to eat, withdrawing its June warning to consumers about a salmonella outbreak. However, the CDC and FDA have released a new warning after discovering a specific strain of salmonella in jalapeno and serrano peppers. The source for this contamination has yet to be determined.
