In Depth - Wait Times in Canada - Dr. Antonia Maioni

(December 14, 2007 - Insidermedicine) On November 26th and 27th, 2007, health care and policy experts from across the country were invited to help write the prescription for managing wait times for health care at the "Wait Times in Canada" conference, co-hosted by Kingston General Hospital and Queen's University.

At the conference, we had a chance to speak to Dr. Antonia Maioni. Dr. Maioni is Director of the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada. At McGill University, she also holds the positions of Associate Professor of Political Science and William Dawson Scholar. She is a graduate of Université Laval and earned a master's degree from Carleton University's Norman Paterson School of International Affairs and a Ph.D. in political science from Northwestern University. She has held visiting appointments at Harvard's Center for European Studies, the North American Studies Program at Duke University, and the European University Institute. Professor Maioni has published widely in the fields of Canadian and comparative politics, with a particular focus on health and social policy. She is the author of Parting at the Crossroads: The Emergence of Health Insurance in the United States and Canada (Princeton University Press), and her current research is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, and the Max Bell Foundation.
