In Depth - Wait Times in Canada - Dr. Alan Hudson, MD (November 29, 2007 - Insidermedicine) On November 26th and 27th, 2007, health care and policy experts from across the country were invited to help write the prescription for managing wait times for health care at the "Wait Times in Canada" conference, co-hosted by Kingston General Hospital and Queen's University.

At the conference, we had a chance to speak to Dr. Alan Hudson. Dr. Hudson was Professor and Chairman of Neurosurgery at the University of Toronto (1979-1989), McCutchson Chair of Surgery and Surgeon-in-Chief at The Toronto Hospital, President of the Sunderland Society, and the Society of University Neurosurgeons, the Canadian Neurosurgical Society, and Honorary President, of the World Federation of Neurological Surgeons. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Tokushima in 1988, and made an Honorary Fellow of the College of Surgeons of South Africa (Neurosurgery) in 1992. Dr. Hudson was appointed President and CEO of University Health Network (Toronto General, Toronto Western, and Princess Margaret Hospitals) in 1991. He subsequently completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. His main research and clinical interests have included the surgery of peripheral nerves, with a 25-year long close association with Professor David Kline of New Orleans. Kline and Hudson have co-authored two textbooks on Peripheral Nerve Surgery and are planning a revision of Nerve Injuries, whose first edition sold out. The Governor General of Canada appointed Dr. Hudson an Officer of the Order of Canada (Canada's highest civilian award) in the spring of 2000.
