Cholesterol Meds Up, Organic Food Better, Out-of-Body Experiences, MRSA Lawsuit Launched

(October 31, 2007 - Insidermedicine) From New Jersey - Research conducted by pharmacy-benefit manager Medco shows that the number of adults between 20 and 44 years of age using cholesterol and blood pressure medications has significantly increased. Those on cholesterol lowering drugs increased 68% over a 5 year period and those on anti-hypertensives increased by 21%.

From the UK - Preliminary results from a 4-year EU study show that organic foods are better than non-organically produced ones. The results showed that organic fruits and vegetables had 40% more antioxidants and organic milk had 60% more antioxidants and healthy fats. Eating organic foods is equivalent to eating an extra serving of fruits or vegetables per day.

From Belgium - An out of body experience occurs when a person perceives that they have left the body and may be accompanied by seeing the body from an elevated position. Commonly known to occur during near-death experiences, it can happen with migraine and epilepsy. Brain stimulation of the temporoparietal region in a patient with intractable tinnitus resulted in repeated episodes of out-of-body experiences.

And finally from New York - A mother is launching a $25 million lawsuit against the hospital and city in which her 12 year old son died of MRSA. The boy was seen in the ER two days before his unfortunate death and was given Benadryl, a medicine used for allergies.
